Presently, fashion and textile experts have pointed out that the service system to maintain smart interior textiles is insufficient and a common set of standards defining methodologies, specifications, and best practices for various smart textiles applications is highly recommended.

Smart colour-changing materials can be applied to detect various environmental factors such as, light and temperature and are currently an open space for development. These have drawn fashion and textile designers’ attentions to create new illuminative and colour-changing products related to fashion and textile design. However, no systematic design process model has been established in order to achieve the specific innovative and functional aspects of colour-changing smart home textile products.

This study aims to develop a theoretical design process model for colour-changing smart materials that can be applied in the contemporary interior home textiles via jacquard weaving techniques. A full consideration of innovative and technological applications of colour-changing materials into home textiles will help to extend the knowledge in this emerging area.
