报告英文简介: In the area of environmental friendly textile processes, practicing enzymes has earned much recompense. Time, energy and water savings together with lesser chemical consumption, lesser damage to the fabric, mild and environmentally friendly process conditions are major advantages of using enzymes. Therefore research in textile processes using enzymes carry much prominence these days. In this work, 100 % cotton woven fabric is pre-treated and dyed both conventionally and using enzymes and the results are compared. During the procedure direct dyes were used for the dyeing of untreated fabric in a single bath combined process by using high temperature dyeing machine on a laboratory scale. In the process Amylase, Pectinase, and Catalase enzymes were used. This procedure is “Rapid Enzymatic Single-bath Treatment” (REST) and it consumed half of the time used for conventional dyeing time. All pretreatment and dyeing processes including de-sizing, scouring, bleaching and dyeing were conceded in one bath. Process water was not replaced with the fresh water throughout the process the completion of dyeing. In the beginning amylase enzyme was used for the desizing of Starch-sized fabric which was then followed by treatment with Pectinases in the same bath in order to remove oils and waxes form the cotton fiber. Using the same bath, fabric was bleached by peroxide and the residues of peroxide were removed employing Catalase enzymes. No washing or rinsing was conceded before the start of the dyeing process and the direct dyes were added in the same bath. At the end fabric was taken out of the bath and washed conventionally. Bleaching efficiency, color fastness, water consumption and fabric strength were compared with the dyeing which was carried out conventionally in separate baths. It was observed that the REST incurs reduced process time, lesser consumption of water and energy, and lesser damage to the fabric when compared to the conventional process.
