Raw cotton fabric is usually bleached using hydrogen peroxide. The bleaching chemical has to be removed before the dye is applied in order to prevent reaction between the bleach and dye. The traditional method of removing the bleach is by rinsing the fabric with water a number of times. Bleach clean up by using catalases enzyme is an alternative technique. A small dose of Catalase Enzyme is capable of decomposing hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen.

To achieve this purpose, the bleaching bath, containing the fabric, was directly treated with catalase enzyme Bactosol SAP?. After hydrogen peroxide bleaching the bath had cooled to 80-30°C, then the catalase enzymes was added in to the bleached bathing the range of 1-5% and the bath kept for 5 - 25 min. no residual hydrogen peroxide contents were detected at 5 % of enzyme concentration at 60 °C when treated for 25 min. For dyeing 1-5% Drimarene CL? reactive dye was used.

It was found that by increasing the dye concentration up to a certain limit it was possible to compensate the color strength difference between fabrics. The amount of electrolyte varied about 30-70g/l in a dye bath. As the electrolyte is increased, the electrostatic repulsion forces decrease which facilitates the adsorption of the dye onto the substrate. The concentration of alkali varied about 10-30g/l. The results of increasing the alkalinity in dyeing with catalases-treated bleaching effluent are apparent that the color strength difference of dyed samples was reduced slightly as the alkalinity of the dye bath was increased. However an increase in alkalinity alone could not overcome the overall color difference. This suggests that increasing both the alkali and electrolyte concentration slightly would result in successful dyeing in the bleaching effluent.
