Natural fiber reinforced composites based on petroleum matrix have been used in various application fields such as automobile and building materials due to light-weight and cost-effectiveness. But, the composites have polluted significantly in the environment, because the composite used non-degradable matrix has not decomposed. Thus, biocomposites composed of natural fibers and biodegradable polymers are widely studied because of carbon dioxide reduction and biodegradable characteristics. However, the biocomposite has critical disadvantages of moisture absorption and thermal resistance as compared with conventional high performance fiber reinforced composites. In this work, jute/poly(butylene terephthalate-co-glutarate)(PBTG) biocomposites were fabricated with additives by a compression molding method. And effects on different fiber length and volume fraction of the structural and mechanical properties of jute/PBTG composites were investigated. As the results, interfacial shear strength of jute/PBTG was enhanced due to removal hemicellulose and lignin by alkali treatment. Optimum fiber length(lf) and volume fraction(vf) of jute in composite were confirmed as 10mm and 0.15 by mechanical properties and lowest molecular weight(M? ) was selected as 24,000.
